We Will Disappear
My debut collection of poetry was published in 2007 by papertiger media. Keep up with the latest news as I reveal exciting details and reviews as they happen!
Secret Lives of the Colonial Poets
In late 2007 I received a grant from Arts Victoria to write a series of poems based on correspondence between Australian poet Bernard O’Dowd and Walt Whitman.
Abendland
These poems were all written while travelling through the USA and Europe in July and August 2005. Abendland is an archaic term for “the west” that translates as “evening land”.
American Creek
I’m writing an epic poem about a totally fictitious family living in Wollongong in the 1980s. I also plan to make a movie of the poem, starring my own family a-as themselves!
Morgenland
Morgenland is an archaic word for ‘the east’ that translates as ‘morning land’. Most of these poems were written during my time in Korea and Japan in 2005.
Marzipan
A hypertext experiment based on my MA Thesis in Creative Writing, this 30,000 word novella describes the invention of Marzipan in a fictional German town in the 1400s.
Publishing News
In expectation of my eventual status as a Nobel Prize winner, I’ve been documenting any news relating to my work being published, either in the real world or on the intertubes.
Music Writing
In a parallel universe I get paid millions of dollars to write scathing reviews of non-existent bands, as well as puff reviews of Chris de Burgh albums. Oh, hang on …
Photos
Isn’t the digital revolution a wonderful thing? Now anyone can be a photographer. Cue mountain, switch to black and white setting, click and voila: Ansell Adams, look and learn.
Poems
Yes, I am a poet. I am also stupid enough to post poems on this website. Many of them are drafts. Some are draughts. Most of them will never be published anywhere else.
Prose
Of course, there’s no point writing oneself into a corner or being labelled a one trick poet. So I’ve started writing prose. Actually, I’ve always written prose. Poetry is for - oops.
The Happy Farang
The Happy Farang is the name of a chapbook I wrote and published at the beginning of the 21st century, signalling my entry into the self-publishing hall of fame.
Blogging
As the name suggests, this category captures anything related to blogging, including tech stuff, blog design and the minutiae of my quest to spend my life adjusting my CSS.
PC Bangs
A PC Bang is a South Korean gaming room cum internet cafe. In 2005 I spent a lot of time in these dungeons writing poems about imaginary cities, taking photos and playing Starcraft.
DNRC
Despite Davey Dreamnation’s highly successful career as a musician, not many of his fans are aware of DNRC, which is hardly surprising given its roster of non-existent bands.
Cordite
Cordite Poetry Review is an online poetry and poetics journal funded by the Australia Council for the Arts. I have been the Cordite editor since 2000.
Clint Bo Dean
Clint Bo Dean is a highly successful musical recording artist. His recordings have been released on the respected label, DNRC. His debut album was entitled “Never Go Ashtray”.
Gigs
Contains essential information about upcoming Davey Dreamnation shows, readings, autograph signings, concert performances and mime cabaret experiments.
Sonnets
Who said sonnets weren’t cool? And who said any poem that’s fourteen lines long is a sonnet? I’m not sure, but I hope nobody notices how amateur these ones are.
Weirdness
What, this whole website isn’t weird enough for you? Okay, I’ve grouped together some stupid stuff under this category just to make myself feel more normal than I usually do.
Davey Dreamnation
Who is Davey Dreamnation? Read posts from the last five or six years of Davey’s life as a chanteuse, and then consider for a moment a world without Davey. Sad, isn’t it?
Audio
Features downloadable mp3s of spoken word poems and classic lo-fi music experiments, as well as links to other audio poems published elsewhere online.
Buddha Machine
The Buddha Machine is an ambient music player that features eight different loops in an attractive (in my instance, hot pink) casing. Everythign is Buddha. That’s also Buddha.
Definitions of Leukerd
Leukerd is a Dutch word that I don’t know the meaning of. One dictionary tells me it means “funny guy” but that won’t do. I’ve come up with one hundred alternate definitions.
Haiku
Every now and then
I write a haiku - this one’s
about a haiku.Friends
Okay, so this blog is not all about me. Occasionally I do write about someone else, usually in very flattering terms. I haven’t yet created a category for ‘enemies’ but don’t tempt me, Brian.
Imaginary Cities
In 2005, while in Seoul, I wrote a series of poems about imaginary cities whose names are based on words ending in ‘city’. Confused? Join the queue.
Asialink (Seoul)
In 2005 I was an Asialink resident in Seoul, Republic of Korea, where I pursued my obsession with PC Bangs and taught at Sogang University.
Thomas Pynchon
I’m an obsessive Pynchon fan, read all his novels and once, in a fit of drunkenness, met him on a train in New York. Actually, I must still be drunk, coz I still think it happened.
PhD
I have spent the last two years denying that I am doing a PhD, with the result that I’m now frantically trying to inspire myself to write the wretched thing. All part of the process.
Stung
Stung is a talented flautist, hailing originally from Dunedin on the South Island of New Zealand but now resident in the Camp Davey Compound in Tribesco.
Scaramouche
Scaramouche is an incorrigible llama who has a fondness for neenish tarts and quiche lorraine. He is currently planning to revive his own personal blog, written in Esperanto.
Search Poems
Think of a title for a poem, type that title into Google and then construct a poem from the results. Sounds simple, doesn’t it? That’s because it is.
Chris de Burgh
I’m starting to appreciate the early records of Chris de Burgh from a poetic perspective, subjecting his song lyrics to some suitably ‘new critical’ analysis. You bet I’m serious.
Honey Power
“Honey Power” is the name of a song by My Bloody Valentine, from their Tremolo EP. I’m currently writing some poems based on early-nineties shoegazer music.
Smoke
“Smoke” is the name of a story on the subjects of Korea and international relationships. It’s only at the draft stage, but I’m hoping to turn it into a novel some day. Some day!
