I read this book while travelling first class on a train from Stockholm to Gavle in Sweden last month but that’s another story. At seventy-odd pages, When You Bit (OTOLITHS, 2008) is a good hour’s read, if you pace yourself properly.

Just thought I’d test out this super-dooper new Wordtube player thingo I’ve installed on my website to upload some old mp3s. Please, consider …

Here’s an interesting post by Laurie Duggan on the wall of sound, where he makes the point that the vocal track on My Bloody Valentine’s song ‘Come In Alone’ works because of the wall of sound surrounding it. While I think this is true, a closer inspection of the lyrics to these kinds of songs [...]

I picked up this chapbook last February in Sydney for AU$15 after seeing Lee Ranaldo’s band Sonic Youth perform its 1988 album, Daydream Nation, in its entirety at the Enmore Theatre. While that concert was the most electrifying experience of my gig-going career (thanks again Joey!), it makes me sad to say that this little [...]

DNRC090 | Mini-LP | 2020 | DELETED
In 2010 Davey Dreamnation stunned the music industry by releasing an EP’s worth of theme songs entitled, appropriately enough, Themes. Breaking with tradition, one decade later Davey released a mini-LP on his own record label, prompting further speculation that he had, at least, completely lost his bonkers. What [...]

Sorting through some old unlabelled CDs yesterday, I came across a few gems, including of course a couple of CDs worth of pictures from previous overseas trips, when I looked slightly younger but no less idiotic than I do today. Then there were the failed band experiments, the obscure software updates and one disc from [...]

DNRC075 | EP | 2010 | DELETED
Davey Dreamnation has stunned the music industry by releasing an EP’s worth of theme songs entitled, appropriately enough, Themes. The opening track is “A Salute to Themes”, a barely-disguised tribute (in mono) to Johnny Hawksworth’s original ”A Salute To Thames”, (a brief excerpt from which you can listen to here). [...]

Last Friday’s Poetry Picture Show event in Sydney was a lot of fun. Ten poets reading out poems about the moving image, followed by short films based on the contents of those poems. Highlights for me were Kate Lilley’s take on Mildred Pierce and John Tranter’s Paris Blues but of course everyone was wonderful. The [...]

Download Snelheid 2 (3.33Mb)
After years of inactivity, lame excuses, courtroom dramas and peanut allergies, Clint Bo Dean has finally got around to releasing the first tracks from his startlingly-weird debut album, currently entitled “Never Go Ashtray”. Rumoured to be even more incendiary than Ash Wednesday, the album may well be released in time for Christmas, [...]

Download imaginary cities: feli (7.79Mb)
Here’s another Babble poem, complete with introduction by Sean M. Whelan and barely audible crowd-heckling from Eddie the Bush Poet, who you might be able to hear claiming that this could be the last poem I ever perform live. Still waiting for that one to eventuate. The poem itself is taken [...]

Download I Claim Responsibility (3.49Mb)
The first recording by Davey Dreamnation since the second space shuttle exploded, “I Claim Responsibility” was originally aired as a spoken word piece on ABC Radio National in 2005 as part of the Deep End Poetry Slam. Never one to rest on his laurels, Davey completely re-recorded the track to cassette and [...]

Download The Boys Who (2.76Mb)
Check out this promotional clip (once called a “cart” in the community radio sector) for the launch of Going Down Swinging #23. Why should I care? Well, this is the first time I’ve ever been mentioned in a cart. I can now add this honour to my list [...]

Download Buddha Machine Duet (31.14Mb, AVI format)
The Buddha Machine is an ambient music player that features eight different loops in an attractive (in this instance, hot pink) casing. Decidedly lo-fi and ultra-cool, the BM has even been reviewed on Pitchfork and is crying out for some experimental soinic fusion. So here’s one attempt at getting [...]

Download There’s A Wild Jack Russell In the Moon (1.91Mb)
Recorded live at Babble by Sean M. Whelan on February 1 2006 as part of my feature set. If you listen carefully, you can hear the sound of a piano, coming out of the speakers of a very old Walkman. Sit back and imagine me pretending [...]

Download My Body Is A Radio (1.82Mb)
Hopefully, you should somehow be able to download a version of my poem “My Body Is A Radio” (click here to read the lyrics as I speak the words!) in mp3 format. The poem was recorded live at Babble on February 1, 2006 by the jaw-droppingly funky Mr Sean [...]
