Envoi

Brennan's contemporary,

				Bernard O'Dowd,

espoused the cause

				of

					  nationalism,

and attained a far

			greater
				reputation
					 in his day;

but unlike
			Brennan's,

	         his work
				has dated

				badly.

Judith Wright,
A Book of Australian Verse (1968)
