Although I’d visited Hiroshima before, I’d never made it to the island of Miyajima, hoem of Japan’s most famous torii. It was pouring rain on the day we arrived, and the island was crawling with tourists but we managed to find a quiet spot on the beach from which we could view the torii in all its glory, together with our new pal, the white crane (pictured).
