Empty bus, Fukuoka

A bus with no passengers in Fukuoka

Okay, so I lie – there are two passengers on this bus: me, and the guy down the front, whose head pokes up above the seat. This was the last bus I caught in Japan, and its destination was the international ferry terminal. I can say in all honesty that by the time we got there, I was indeed the only passenger on board. Unlike the buses in a lot of other cities, which have switched to automated ticketing, the buses in Fukuoka still display a kind of ‘bingo-board’ with ticket numbers and fares.
