Continued international interest and a surge of downloads have left Davey Dreamnation gasping, like a fish out of mortar, on the verge of the #1 lo-fi artist spot on mp3.com.au.

Sources close to the bemusing starburst confirmed this morning (Camp Davey time) that Davey’s incendiary new single “Departures” has led the way, debuting at #23 on the lo-fi charts after only five days in circulation. With more than 350 downloads/streams in the last 30 days, Davey now sits, expectantly, at #2 on both the artist and album charts, waiting for a final explosion of download activity to propel him into history.

Expect new t-shirt designs very soon.

Meanwhile in nerd news, Davey continues to harness fans from far afield. A brief inspection of his site statistics today revealed recent search queries including “islands+in+the+stream+song+facts”, “majorca+pix” and the perennial favourite “bootleg+download+oasis”.

Davey suggests any Oasis fans visiting this site in the hope of finding a burnt copy of “Champagne Supernova” might be better off standing on the shoulder of midgets.

It’s a great view from up here.
