Day-to-day minutiae.

My(sp)ace(face)boo(Lin)k(edin) WTF?

akubra.jpgG’day mates, Davey here again with just a few of my most recent thoughts, right off the top of my Akubra, about social networks, being cool and all that stuff. Because I know that some of you are just a little bit confused about what it all means. So, for your reading pleasure, I’m going to answer, as well as I can, that perennial question, as well as a few others. And while some of you may dismiss my musings as the demented rantings of a cocky with a few too many loose bits of gravel in the top paddock, that doesn’t mean that I’m the only one thinking these things. In fact, from what I can gather, pretty much everyone in Australia with an email account is now facing the ultimate choice: do I become a member of Facebook, and ‘re-connect’ with my long-lost pals, or do I stick with Myspace, and sign up KRudd or The Howard Government (THG) as my “friend”? Do I hear a “WTF”? You bet I do! Strewth.

It’s a Book!

On Monday night I came home from uni half-hoping that a copy of We Will Disappear had arrived in the mail. All that was waiting for me, however, was a statement from my bank telling me how little money I have, and even that was two weeks out of date. I tried to fling the bank statement onto the couch but all I succeeded in doing was launching that flimsy piece of paper into the air, from where it began its long, slow and miserable descent, after which I went into the bathroom to sit on the toilet for a while and seethe.

We Will Disappear!

wwd_small.jpgMy debut collection of poetry We Will Disappear now has a cover image, a thickness (8mm!) and—an ISBN!

I’m dizzy.

The cover image was taken by yours truly back in 2000—read more about the background to this picture and the author shot (taken by Sean M Whelan) here.

The book will be launched at the Melbourne Writers Festival in August 2007, and the Queensland Poetry Festival in September 2007.

More on that as it comes to hand but the exciting news is that the book now exists, if only for a short time, and copies of it (as well as both Barry Hill and Margie Cronin’s books) have arrived at the soi3/papertiger office in Chiang Mai, Thailand.

Below are the full publication details, or ‘specs’, as I like to call them. It doesn’t get any more official than this.

Dream Team

For the past month at least my Bloglines account has been on the jinx but tonight, what do you know – all of the blog feeds are now working again and I’ve received a grand total of 245 new items since late April – an impressive amount of content creation on the part of my starting eighteen, to use the Australian Rules Football parlance. Here’s a quick rundown of my team’s current ‘form’ with blog entries or ‘possessions’ indicated in brackets after the team member’s name. Got it? Well, it’s like you’ve got your backs, your forwards, your rovers, your ruckman and so on. Eighteen players in all.
