Davey Dreamnation is in shock tonight, after learning that the release yesterday (Majorca time) of his debut album “islands in the stream of consciousness” has led to a stampede on the mp3.com.au charts.

“It’s quite overwhelming, to tell you the truth,” gasped his latest interpreter and spokesperson Stung. “I mean, before today, Davey was averaging a couple or three downloads per day, just a trickle really, compared to some of my own releases. But fifty six (56) downloads in one day is simply amazing. I’m seething, naturally.”

The immediate popularity of the kaleidoscopic masterpiece has been spoiled somewhat by the failure of mp3.com.au officials to release the title track, an anthemic lighter-waving epic that’s sure to stir more than a few idle hearts into action.

“Yes, well, we haven’t told Davey that “islands in the stream of consciousness” itself remains on the shelf, so to speak. He’s currently tucked away in bed, pinching himself in order to make sure the whole thing isn’t just a dream. I’ve personally had to change his sheets several times in the past hour. I think it’s best to just let him bask in the glory. I’m sure tomorrow’s download statistics will bring him right back to earth again.

“I’m still seething, but. Damn him,” spluttered the obviously deflated and shattered Kiwi crooner, before returning to the Camp Davey linen closet, where he is expected to spend the next 24 hours at least.
