Dream Team

For the past month at least my Bloglines account has been on the jinx but tonight, what do you know – all of the blog feeds are now working again and I’ve received a grand total of 245 new items since late April – an impressive amount of content creation on the part of my starting eighteen, to use the Australian Rules Football parlance. Here’s a quick rundown of my team’s current ‘form’ with blog entries or ‘possessions’ indicated in brackets after the team member’s name. Got it? Well, it’s like you’ve got your backs, your forwards, your rovers, your ruckman and so on. Eighteen players in all.

I am surrounded by genii

idoj.jpgAfter four days of literary jauntiness and speed intellectualism, I’m beginning to feel a bit like Richie Watts after attending the Comedy Festival – blown-out, exhausted and thrilled by the sheer number of genii (or should that be geniuses – whatevs) presently living, breathing and creating stuff for people like you and me to enjoy. Yep, you got it – the Emerging Writers Festival (and its sister-event, the Independent Press Conference) proved for me that Ozlit, in its many and varied forms, is alive and kicking against the pricks, no matter what the doomsayers want you to think.

Some Alternative Davey Dreamnation Promotional Shots

While I’ve been sweating over the choice of promotional photo for my upcoming debut book of poetry, I’ve also been grappling with issues of artistic integrity and interrogating my own self-image, with alarming results. How do I want the world to view me? Is it possible for me to control the image I present to the world? Does anyone really care?

Cue some spectacular photographic work from my sister Francesca, who obviously has no respect for me and clearly has too much time on her hands. I’ve been looking at these pics for the past few days and laughing so hard it’s giving me a belly ache. If I was Stung, I’d be seething right now. Seething.

Gig at La Mama!

lamamaapril.jpg

What a way to begin the month of March – ie, by looking forward to the month of April, my favourite month of the year! Yes, that’s right – as the flier above explains clearly enough on its own, I’ve been invited to read at the April edition of La Mama Poetica, MCed by tech-queen Klare Lanson this Monday 16th April at 8pm. Yippee!

The In Jokes

injokes.jpg

Future pranksters The In Jokes (pictured) will release their debut (in fact, only) single on the highly respected [dnrc] label some time in 2007. Find out its fate by visiting the [dnrc] site today. Or tomorrow. I mean, it’ll still be there then. The picture above, taken by a [dnrc] administrative assistant at a recent bash held to celebrate [dnrc]’s fiftieth release, shows multi-instrumentalist Wu Gazer on the left and cryptic lyricist Maikiki on the right, just behind, slightly out of focus. Hat and specs were provided by the lead singer of Super Grope, who should not be confused with the lead singer of The Cosby Kids. Hair, as ever, by Brian.
