Category: Cordite Poetry Review (page 4 of 7)

I was the Managing Editor of Cordite Poetry Review between 2001 and 2012. I produced 29 full issues of the magazine, plus 10 mini-issues, in an online format. Check out my Cordite portfolio page for more information.

Cordite 29.0: Pastoral (2008)

Lambs on Texel Island, Noord HollandCordite’s gone pastoral but that doesn’t necessarily have anything to do with droving. Guest poetry editor Stuart Cooke steadies the lead with his selections, including new work by Joyce Parkes, Michael Farrell, Nick Powell, Jennifer Compton, David Musgrave and more! The issue also features six tracks from the latest issue of Going Down Swinging, available exclusively and for a limited time only etc etc. Stuart’s editorial is also attracting some comments, including one discussing the poems at great length. I should mention that two of the poems discussed were written by yours truly, a fact which prompts the commenter to bring up the ethics of editors’ poems appearing in magaines they, erm, edit. Of course, I’ve discussed this before but feel free to leave a comment on the issue, either over there or (perhaps, more appropriately, given that thread is meant to be about Stuart’s editorial and the issue in general) below. Don’t be shy. Or be shy, whatevs.

Cordite 28: Secret Cities (2008)

… although by the time you read this post you’re probably already aware of its ‘appearance’, not just via the 28: Secret Cities index page but also through RSS feeds (which ‘leaked through’ even though the public website was in ‘maintenence’ mode), my own perhaps inadvertant leaks via my Facebook update, a Facebook Cordite group email and an email posted to contributors informing them that the issue had gone live, or at least, almost.

In terms of statistics, which I love, yesterday (July 1 – the official Secret Cities release date) was Cordite’s best day ever (or at least, the day with the highest number of hits since we installed our neww statistics package in March). With an email being sent (hopefully!) to all Cordite subscribers today, I’m just hoping that more people check out the great poetry in the issue.

Then again, by posting news of the issue’s release on my blog, which also contains an RSS feed, as well as a feed to my Facebook page, which also contains a mini-feed, perhaps I’ve gone too far with this “FEED” thing. I like to think of it as a Really[SS] Seeth[ing] Frenzy (RSF).

I was the poetry editor for this issue.

Cordite 27: Experience (2008)

After lengthy delays, Cordite 27 Experience is now ready to go, with new poetry posted daily beginning February 8 2008 – hey, that was last week! Yikes!

Join our guest editor, actor-poet sensation Terry Jaensch and share the experiences of some of Australia’s most innovative and savvy poets! With a beautiful cover image by Emilie Zoey Baker (pictured above), and a handful of poems already posted by luminaries such as Sebastian Gurciullo, John Leonard, Jane Gibian and joanne burns, there’s plenty of reasons to keep on hitting that link, till it wears out or something.

The point is that you can check back each day to read something new or else, subscribe to our RSS feed! What’s that, you ask? well, it’s simple – in fact, it’s Really Simple Syndication. Kind of like getting the news headlines on a dedicated blog page. D/DN has an RSS feed too, for those who are interested. You can find out more about RSS by reading this article.

Prose poetry is the new black. Join guest editor Kristina Marie Darling in celebrating all things prosodical in Cordite 26.1: White Homes, a special selection of work from ten of the USA’s finest exponents of the genre, including Erin M. Bertram, Joshua Clover, Robert Gibbons, Richard Greenfield, Sarah Manguso, Simone Muench, Mary Ann Samyn, Richard Siken, G. C. Waldrep and Elizabeth Willis. This issue is also special in that it will enjoy a staggered release, with new poetry posted daily, beginning tomorrow, 1 January 2008!

Secondly, as mentioned on the Cordite site and in a note to subscribers, I’d also like to apologise to all of you who have submitted to Cordite 27: Experience, for the delay in responding to your submissions. Due to circumstances beyond our control, the publication of this issue has been delayed, and is now expected in late January-February 2008. Rest assured that your submissions have been received and anonymised and you will receive notification as to the fate of your submissions as soon as humanly possible!

Thirdly, I’m delighted to announce that we have once again been successful in obtaining Australia Council funding for the production of the Cordite online. This means we’ll be making some announcements very soon as to themes for 2008 and other special features.

Thank you once again for your patience and for your support of Cordite Poetry Review.
